I crossed over meadows and fields of the springtime
The sunlight was shining the sky was so blue,
And there lay before me a patchwork of colour
As I gazed in awe at that wonderful view.
I stood on the bridge that was spanning the river
Looked down on the water that gently flowed by,
Its music I heard that was soft and so soothing
As there on the surface reflections did lie.

Of hawthornthat wore the sweet blossoms of May and
Were draping the banks like a cascade of snow,
I paused for a moment to take in its wonder
As over the landscape the fresh breeze did blow.
Scented and laced with the perfume of flowers
As then through the heart of the country I strove,
Past parsley lined verges I came to the woodland
Then rested within such a beautiful grove.

While there in the shade of the newly-leafed branches
I sat and I watched as the morning did pass,
Amidst all the bluebells so pretty together
That gracefully bloomed through the long waving grass.
While gaily the butterfly flew from the shadows
When caught in the sunbeams its velvet wings shone,
I watched as it weaved and then fluttered about me
Then soared to the treetops and then it was gone.

I then closed my eyes and I listened to nature
The song of the blackbired embellished the air,
And then I did wish that this day last forever
For all of my days I could spend living there.
No dream could be finer than sights I had witnessed
Nor better the pattern God's tapestry wove,
For there I found heaven existing around me
When I did dwell in that wonderful grove.

ANDREW BLAKEMORE

http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/beautiful-grove/
