The old grandfather clock stood in the hall <br />and imparted its wisdom. <br />The second hand rhythmically bounced <br />to the beat of time, <br />and minutes flowed gracefully with a <br />just perceptible movement; <br />the hour seeming fixed at the instant. <br /> <br />Tiny hands of a much greater clock <br />swirled in a frenzy <br />counting a world of unseen microcosm <br />and great sweeping universal hands <br />counted countless millennia <br />and the life of stars. <br /> <br />Here in the confines of a country house <br />with only the perception of <br />seconds, minutes, hours and seasons, <br />mind is trapped; <br />and reaches out to infinity, <br />signposted by the wisdom <br />of that old grandfather clock.<br /><br />David Taylor<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/reaching-out-10/
