As I lay there motionless <br />sinking into my bed, <br />I think of all the things <br />I wish I would have said. <br /> <br />The belated 'I'm sorrys' <br />and the forgoten 'hellos', <br />dance through my mind <br />and send a shiver to my toes. <br /> <br />The thought of being happy <br />with the words I'll never hear, <br />doesn't do much for my insomnia <br />and just adds onto my fear. <br /> <br />I think of all the times <br />that I should have walked away. <br />Instead I did what others would <br />and decided just to stay. <br /> <br />If this were my last night, <br />I would cry out to you now, <br />and say sorry for the times <br />I let everyone down. <br /> <br />I would try to turn a new leaf <br />and learn from my mistakes. <br />And pray for the chance to change <br />the undeserved heartbreaks. <br /> <br />I would rush outside to scream <br />until my lungs grew tired, <br />yelling my advice <br />to a world that just retired. <br /> <br />My one last bit <br />of parting advice is this: <br />No matter what you do <br />don't let life go amiss.<br /><br />Julie Neises<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/my-last-night-2/
