I am not proud I am Irish that's just my Nationality <br />I have never waved an Irish flag that does not appeal to me <br />I am anti Patriotism and Nationalism of that why should I lie <br />And that's the way I will remain until the day I die <br />Of their Nationalism and Patriotism some feel the need to brag <br />But far too many have died in wars for the colour of their Nation's flag <br />On the neighbours flagpost in their front yard their National flag it is blowing in the breeze <br />If this is a boost to their egos they must not be that hard to please <br />Suppose they are trying for to tell us that they support the distant war <br />Against people that we made our enemies in a Country from our Nation far <br />But we all need something for to stand for and we all look at things differently <br />And what many does see as a good thing may not seem a good thing to me <br />I am not proud that I am Irish of my Birthland that seems strange to say <br />But in my heart I do love Ireland my Homeland from here far away.<br /><br />Francis Duggan<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/i-am-not-proud-i-am-irish/
