ANDREW BLAKEMORE - The Factories Have All Gone

2014-11-08 2 Dailymotion

The factories have all gone where once
The smoking stacks did stand,
So too their famous silhouettes
That stood upon this land,
The site now lying empty where
The grass and bush have grown,
Which cloak the scattered bricks that lie
With twisted iron and stone.

The smogs have cleared revealing streets
Of red bricked terraced rows,
Some boarded up with missing slates
Through which the cold wind blows,
Where once the town was crowded
Now deserted and so bleak,
So many now have moved away
For work they had to seek.

Yet since those factories there were built
So many years have passed,
Who would have thought those days would end
And disappear so fast,
Those families and communities
Have all been torn apart,
For now the town has lost its soul
So too its beating heart.

ANDREW BLAKEMORE

http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/the-factories-have-all-gone/
