I used to race pigeons for money <br />Two nice ones “Jampot” and “Honey” <br />They couldn’t fly far <br />So I took them by car <br />And they’d run home - Okay, it sounds funny! <br /> <br />These running birds started a trend <br />Amongst pigeon fancier friends <br />There were now steeple chases <br />And long marathan races <br />‘Cross fields, over hills and round bends <br /> <br />The para-pigeon races were there <br />For pigeons confined to wheel chairs <br />Those with no legs or feet <br />We gave wheels and a seat <br />Well we wanted to make sure it was fair! <br /> <br />There was a big race on - one day <br />So we took our birds ten miles away <br />Looked round for some foxes <br />Then undid the boxes <br />And the race had started - hooray! <br /> <br />Jampot and Honey were competing <br />In this prestigious of all bird race meetings <br />Running at their top speed <br />For ‘Pigeons In Need’ <br />But their glory in winning was fleeting <br /> <br />As Jam ran to the finishing line <br />We heard a sickening whine <br />A souped up wheelchair <br />Had come from nowhere <br />And ran over those two birds of mine! <br /> <br />Well that was the end of their glory <br />The race finished bloody and gory <br />Now they sit in wheelchairs <br />Have lifts for the stairs….. <br />And that was the end of their story! <br /> <br /> <br />copyright Victoria George<br /><br />VICTORIA GEORGE<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/jampot-and-honey/
