Wild reed I grew along the only banks I knew
A peter pan came and plucked the ugliest of those that grew.
The reed wondered what better fate could it meet
than to lie unidentified at the maker’s feet?
Peter pan oblivious of the reed’s confusion
Scraped away its rough bark with utter precision
the reed mocked at his ludicrous selection
unable to decipher his course of action;
not trusting the warmth that through his hands percolated
Pusillanimously defied the love that he exuded.
He removed the grimy visages that entangled it so
and hollowed out its bowels which had made it feel so low;
he closed his petal eyelids and blew his sweetest breath -
the music flowed unparalleled through the length and breadth!
mystified at the magic that it could possess
the ugly reed into the lyrical flute he had processed!
We have all been sent with a purpose by God-
just need a friend who can help peal off that pod.

jyoti saxena

http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/the-ugly-reed/
