As he walks in through the door <br />He grabs up his little girl <br />Then thinking back to the war <br />Knowing this is what made it worth <br /> <br />A tear runs down his face <br />As he thinks back in time <br />When bullets flew so close <br />A nd when he could have found a mine <br /> <br />But he was one of the lucky ones <br />That didn't pay the cost <br />He fought to see his family <br />Now proud to know, it wasn't a loss <br /> <br />He holds his girl up high <br />As if for all his buddies to see <br />Show them they didn't die in vain <br />For this is still the land of the free <br /> <br />Now he sits her on his knee <br />And holds her a little bit tighter <br />For he has just got home, but <br />His world world got so much brighter <br /> <br />He runs his fingers through her curly brown hair <br />As he looks into her pretty brown eyes <br />And he knows the day is coming <br />He'll have his hands full with some young guys <br /> <br />He just sits and holds her <br />Like it's the end of the world <br />Like no one else existed <br />Except for him and his baby girl <br /> <br />Now he thinks back in time <br />To when he was back in Iraq <br />Him and some buddies got stranded <br />Living in a make shift shack <br /> <br />Yet all he could hope or pray for <br />Was to see his girl once again <br />But that's what kept him going <br />Was the hope to hold her once again <br /> <br />So should you get down and out <br />Just you remember these words my friend <br />That hope may help guide you <br />But love and prayer will see you till the end <br /> <br />wrote 8/16/2008 by Norman Hale Jr<br /><br />norman hale<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/a-soldiers-hope/
