when i was a little baby i crawled and drooled <br />i was the cutest thing i had everybody fooled <br />the only time i could make everyone wet <br />poopoo on without getting them all upset <br /> <br />when i was a little child i sat on my father's lap <br />put my lips to the water running from the tap <br />brought dirty puppies from the street home <br />believed in fairies, pixies and gnomes <br /> <br />when i was a little child i rode pretty ponies <br />with dreamy eyes i listen to stories <br />i gently bathed and carefully dressed my dollies <br />i smiled and got away with all my follies <br /> <br /> when i was a little girl i loved the green fields <br /> strong soldiers with armors and shields <br /> rainbows, juicy watermelon, hail stones and puddles <br />wind chimes, baby bums and teddy bears that i could cuddle <br /> <br /> <br />when i was little girl i would cry for gas balloons <br />my favorite pink mickey mouse spoon <br />cry for the medicines i did have to swallow <br />the solution for the math problem i couldnt follow <br /> <br />when i was a little girl i believed in god <br />always anxious for my mother's nod <br />i believed trees had feelings and cried when cut <br />there was secret code in every cigarette butt <br /> <br />then i got a little sister who cried all night <br />she followed me around and we fought alright <br />we played home and made dresses for our doll <br />we sure caught each other whenever we did fall <br /> <br />now iam all grown up and pretty to see <br />every time i look across the sea <br />i see the little girl that was me <br />making mud cakes happy and free.<br /><br />Reshma Ramesh<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/when-i-was-little/
