As the mist descends upon <br />The autumn day so still and calm, <br />The sun does glow as if an orb <br />Alone up in the sky, <br />A winter chill late afternoon <br />The clouds are rolling closer in, <br />And hide the treetops far away <br />As colours fade and die. <br /> <br />As the mist descends upon <br />The empty fields now barren lay, <br />And birds no longer sing within <br />The hawthorn hedgerows bare, <br />A gentle hush does slowly fall <br />The milky sunlight peering through, <br />A halo in the palest skies <br />And silence fills the air. <br /> <br />As the mist descends upon <br />The landscape now so hard to see, <br />The sun is growing fainter now <br />Until its light is drowned, <br />Behind the clouds so dark and grey <br />And as the evening slowly falls, <br />No wind to stir the solemn leaves <br />That lie upon the ground.<br /><br />ANDREW BLAKEMORE<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/as-the-mist-descends/
