Can people please stop driving cars; <br />Screeching on striped, glossy roads. <br />On mother earth’s bare skin we have made scars, <br />By those rugged tyres that scorch. <br /> <br />Can people please turn off the lights. <br />The stars have dissolved in the dark blue sky. <br />No twinkle reaches my vacant eyes. <br /> <br />Can people please stop talking. <br />The melodies of nature, <br />Are pierced by our harsh words <br />And our loud cries. <br /> <br />Can people please stop fighting. <br />Throwing bombs and crying for those who die. <br />There are more worthy reasons to fight for. <br />If we don’t stop now, we will all die. <br /> <br />Can people please stop pitying themselves. <br />They cry all day while our mother earth rots away. <br />The earth silently cries, <br />It weeps, <br />But silent cries only lead to silent deaths. <br /> <br />We should listen closely to our mother, <br />To act upon what she wants. <br />All we do is act upon lies, <br />Or things that would waste her, <br />In nuclear sighs.<br /><br />Mehreen Mujeeb<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/please-55/
