The leaves do lie in puddles on the pavement, <br />And flow in river gutters down the drain, <br />I myself am feeling down and lonesome, <br />As I walk alone in pouring rain. <br /> <br />Relentlessly it falls and there's no shelter, <br />The shutters drawn and closed as evening nears, <br />The city lights are shining down so brightly, <br />But only now illuminate my fears. <br /> <br />I wander witthout care and no direction, <br />My shoes are leaking and I feel so cold, <br />Not a penny to my name and I'm so hungry, <br />Everything I owned now lost or sold. <br /> <br />I walk along the soaking city centre, <br />Lit only by the shop signs up above, <br />The tree-lined roads around me are so empty, <br />Like my heart that is so starved of love. <br /> <br />The leaves do lie in puddles on the pavement, <br />And flow in river gutters down the drain, <br />I myself am feeling down and lonesome, <br />As I walk alone in pouring rain.<br /><br />ANDREW BLAKEMORE<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/puddles-2/
