White Mini <br />drives right up to <br /> <br />the sea’s edge <br />stops: <br /> <br />just - short of it. <br /> <br />A wave laps <br />the front wheel <br /> <br />kindly <br />like a cat. <br /> <br />Beautiful woman <br />(all in white) <br /> <br />steps out of <br />the Mini <br /> <br />& out of <br />her mini. <br /> <br />My 14 yr. old <br />mind <br /> <br />stands <br />agasp! <br /> <br />She undresses <br />in a flash. <br /> <br />Plunges <br />urgently <br /> <br />into the sea’s <br />urgency. <br /> <br />Swims out <br />to meet the horizon. <br /> <br />Meanwhile <br />her white clothes <br /> <br />neatly folded <br />in a neat pile <br /> <br />elope <br />with the first <br /> <br />naughty wind <br />that comes along. <br /> <br />Her clothes <br />fly out to sea <br /> <br />chasing their mistress. <br /> <br />The beach <br />laughs. <br /> <br />Gaily coloured <br />balls bounce. <br /> <br />Sandcastles <br />fall to footprints. <br /> <br />Candyfloss is & <br />isn’t…in an instant. <br /> <br />Dad packs <br />everything <br />(including us) <br /> <br />into Uncle Michael’s <br />old blue van <br /> <br /> <br />& we leave <br />before she <br /> <br />returns. <br /> <br />For me she is <br />always <br /> <br />swimming out to sea <br />the horizon calling <br /> <br />her. <br /> <br /> <br />Her <br />clothes <br /> <br />flying after <br />her <br /> <br />like strange <br />white birds. <br /> <br />Her Mini now <br />submerged <br /> <br /> <br />below <br />the waves.<br /><br />Dónall Dempsey<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/mini-mini/
