A heart once broken leads one's eyes to roam,
Just as mine did one Winter day,
My youth ravished eyes swept the room,
And saw her standing, a beautiful cliché;

She turned, and sunlight seemed to shine on me,
Her eyes met mine and a fire blazed,
Unbeknownst to me, my heart's decree;
Standing there, she smiled, leaving me amazed.

With shoulders squared and breathing stilled,
I made to walk to her,
But sudden panic in my heart filled;
I had blinked and she had left. I could not find her there.

I still catch glimpse of her from time to time,
That’s when my heart sings love's anthem,
The spell she cast has no reason nor rhyme,
Still yet I can’t forget that beautiful phantom.

Alexander Steen Stewart

http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/beautiful-phantom/
