In the city <br />The skyscrapers stick out like ugly monuments <br />Or the rugged ground’s smooth middle finger <br />Saying “Aahaha, fooled all you! ” <br />Then the abandon buildings and houses say <br />“You’re all talk, you couldn’t cut it sitting on my foundations” <br /> <br />In the town <br />The water tower says, <br />“Yeah, I’m pretty much useless” <br />And down by the river <br />The little shops made from wood say <br />Nothing because they’re all dying of old age <br /> <br />Out in the country <br />All the s****y general stores say <br />“I’m happy right where I am” <br />But the few beautiful houses say <br />“I feel like I’ve been cheated” <br /> <br />And all the people in the city just say <br />“This city is dying, I need to get out” <br />And all the people in the town say <br />“This town is dead, I got to get out” <br />And all the country boys say <br />“This place has always been dead, <br /> But I’m happy right where I am”<br /><br />Dan Walters<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/realizing-you-re-homesick-hypocrite/
