He and I so long ago bought the little tree <br />And planted it in the front yard for all the world to see. <br />The tree, a sign, of the love we'd always share <br />Showed happiness, comfort, peace, joy, and care. <br />The branches that grew showed roads we'd travel on <br />Forgiving one another for times that turned out wrong. <br />On a windy day the leaves would fall on to the ground <br />To remind us during life not all dreams can be found. <br />Together we shared laughter and cried many tears <br />As we stood beside each other throughout the passing years. <br />This morning I awoke and could not help but cry <br />For late last night God called you to his castle in the sky. <br />Crying I knelt down and prayed to God above <br />And asked him to bless and keep the one I'd always love. <br />Slowly I walked outside and cried beneath the tree <br />The one we planted long ago for all the world to see.<br /><br />Sherri Vogel<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/a-sign-of-love/
