As I stand on this gallow, a wreck <br />trembling with a rope around my neck <br />looking at people looking at me upon this wooden deck <br />knowing they will pull the pin and send me to my death <br />in just moments I will take my last breath <br />hang me now I'm sick <br />torture me no more <br />I want to die quick <br />though I never died before <br />now I'm hanging from this rope so tight <br />my lungs for air begin to fight <br />struggling strangling my legs dangling <br />I will live no more <br />screaming crying thoughts of dying <br />as I dropped through the floor <br />seeing fears dreams under a cloud <br />over the town <br />hearing cheers screams from the crowd <br />on my way down <br />so I'm lifeless without sight nor sound <br />going to my grave strifeless <br />with plight under the ground<br /><br />ERNEST CLARY<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/mary-surratt-on-the-gallow/
