Like every life form in this World humans are born to die <br />And the stories of an afterlife may even be a lie <br />For not one I know who has passed away to me has come back to tell <br />Of another life in another World of a heaven or of a hell <br />If this is the only life we'll live what a failure I have been <br />And though I've written reams and reams of stuff on the things I've done and seen <br />Since in the eyes of big brother success I have not known <br />Or as one would say the seeds of greatness in life I have not sown <br />I must be seen as a non achiever a weed can never become a rose <br />But not everyone can be a success such is life one must suppose <br />And does it matter anyway since death it is our lot <br />If your name will live for centuries or you will be forgot <br />And my only ambition in life is to live for as long as I can <br />And in my sleep die peacefully as a worn out old man.<br /><br />Francis Duggan<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/my-only-life-ambition/
