If I offer you all my love <br />will you value it? <br /> <br />Or think me cheap <br />to offer it <br />so easily? <br /> <br />If I deny you my love <br />will you <br />lose interest <br />and leave me <br />alone <br />and lonely? <br /> <br />If I am mysterious <br />and offer not; <br />am vague <br />will you first be intrigued <br />and later lose interest? <br /> <br />Shall I then concentrate <br />and be interested only <br />in my needs <br />ignoring yours <br />and risk <br />your anger <br />your rejection <br />your hurtfulness? <br /> <br />Can I suppress <br />all I am <br />and give you everything <br />you need <br />but feel one day <br />my own anger <br />rise <br />as my heart <br />is emptied; <br /> <br />and my waterfall <br />ceases <br />leaving me feeling <br /> <br />dead and lonely? <br /> <br />Should I ignore <br />all of this <br />and conclude <br />I am not really ready <br />for love; <br />certainly not sex <br />and wait <br />for the Perfect One <br />enduring <br />the Aloneness? <br /> <br />Should I just do drugs? <br />Masturbate? <br />Eat too much? <br /> <br />Cling to friends? <br />Isolate? <br /> <br />All this <br />is part of growing up. <br /> <br />None of it easy stuff. <br /> <br />My view? <br /> <br />Come away from the early years <br />with as little damage as you can <br />so that you survive it all <br />being the you <br />you looking for. <br /> <br />If there is a secret <br />it is this: <br />being sure <br />you are the best <br />you <br />you are looking for.<br /><br />Lonnie Hicks<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/love-s-perview/
