The heavens parted and the waters have calmed, <br />to bring you to me in the beginning of this <br />invisable storm, <br />but you let through and i held out my hand <br />and was able to get away to the tropical land. <br /> <br />First it rained and rained but i knew we could <br />survive, <br />all we needed was shelter or just somewhere <br />to hide. <br />If not then my love will keep us dry, <br />no matter what will happen I'll always be <br />by your side. <br /> <br />Then cold weather came our way, <br />and the snow came down hard, <br />and i felt obligated to keep you warm so safe in my <br />arms, <br />but the cold cut through love and ice, <br />and left me there holding onto nothing <br />but a lost life. <br /> <br />I told you before the cold hell came, <br />that I would protect you at all cost <br />no matter how bad it would be, <br />but i stood in the shadows holding onto my <br />sorrow, <br />when i saw that your body lost it's warm glint <br />and became so hollow. <br /> <br />I resisted to touch it as you layed there <br />cold to the touch, <br />but my love is attached to you and i can't <br />let you go off, <br />I promised you a life of no worries, <br />no arguments, no time, <br />intimacy among the highest levels, <br />just you and me.... <br /> <br />The snow took you away from me, <br />the night that lost more than one life, <br />so as much as i hated to see your body <br />so cold, <br />i promised myself to not let you go alone.<br /><br />Elizabeth Tyease Collins<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/the-cold-that-took-you-away/
