I saw an elephant in a tree – <br />The elephant looked down at me! <br />I did not stare, for thought it rude <br />But wondered what he did for food <br />For on that tree the leaves were few; <br />There wasn’t much for him to chew. <br /> <br />So trying not to be nosey <br />I called to him up in the tree <br />“hello there, are you in distress? <br />Can I save you from this mess? <br />At first it seemed he did not hear <br />But then he shed a heavy tear. <br /> <br />“Thank you sir, as you can see <br />I’m trapped here in this wretched tree <br />And all because, to feel alive, <br />I really wanted to sky-dive <br />But the parachute I could not steer <br />And that is why I’m stuck up here <br /> <br />“And I’ve been here for many days <br />With nothing but these leaves to graze <br />Too scared to move in case I fall <br />My mouth and throat too dry to call, <br />For very little have I drunk, <br />Just raindrops sucked into my trunk <br /> <br />Now I was in a quandary <br />Should I try to climb the tree <br />With a bale of hay strapped to my back <br />And a hundred buns in a burlap sack? <br />And surely he’d need a drink or two – <br />Two gallons of Perrier ought to do.<br /><br />Nomad Omnia<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/strange-dream-in-progress/
