As soon as I lay my head down at night <br />Darkness swallows my mind <br />Into a land unknown <br />I see myself <br />Standing in darkness <br />There is no one around me <br />But wait! <br />What is that terrifying sound? <br />It's coming closer <br />And closer <br />I can hear steps <br />Pounding behind me <br />I'm trying to run <br />Working up such an effort <br />My legs are so heavy <br />Moving slow <br />Trying to run <br />Can't move <br />My legs <br />The noise is getting closer <br />I see a light up ahead <br />I run towards it <br />Eager to escape the fate that is coming up behind me <br />The light is getting farther and father away <br />I stumble backwards and the dark hole <br />Swallows me <br />I'm falling <br />Falling forever <br />Into eternity <br />I scream and awake with a start <br />I'm sitting in bed <br />My clothes sticking to me in sweat <br />I'm panting and my heart <br />Is racing <br />I lay down thinking <br />It was just a dream <br />Too afraid to sleep again <br />I lay there staring at my ceiling <br />In the dark <br />No <br />Not a dream <br />A nightmare<br /><br />Samantha Young<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/font-color-brickred-a-nightmare/
