Watch, Oh! watch <br />For deadened will <br />Scattered intention, <br />And cup half-filled <br />Inexperience in battles <br />Heeds to presumption <br />Shield me from faulty, <br />Ungodly assumption <br />Am I terrified for soul's asleep, <br />Sunk in frightful steep? <br />Frightened by days tedious <br />For swinging around <br />Adversary hideous? <br /> <br />Seek, Oh! seek <br />For lasting trail of Light <br />Supernatural motive <br />To sanctify toil, weighty might <br />To be cleansed by insults, spit, <br />Thorns and hurtful blows... <br />Unfearing of pain - the purifier <br />And sanctifier of souls... <br />Rid of all foes of Light! <br />For pain can be joyful <br />And darkness bright... <br />Sacrifice sweet as honeycomb <br />In the final, sacred rite... <br /> <br />Abide, Oh! abide <br />In His wounded Heart... <br />Unafraid of Truth, <br />All for Sooth unclenching <br />Thirst from puddles of earthly <br />Comfort - not quenching <br />Lacking sacrifice - <br />No cherished ideal <br />Is ever real... <br />Can there be earthly <br />And heavenly bliss <br />And consolation <br />While missing <br />Earnestness <br />For others' elation... <br />Salvation? <br /> <br />Let Thy Love open unwary ears <br />Enliven heart that not much feels...<br /><br />Dorothy Kardas, Psy.D.
