I'd learned never to trust all fairy tales <br />The damsel in distress, castles, the prince <br />Not even the “happily ever after”s <br />Reckoned that I certainly knew better. <br /> <br />Nor did I believe that love moved mountains <br />'Cause it never really did anything <br />But put people powerless under its spell <br />Stripping them of spirit, till nothing is left. <br /> <br />When you loved me, I thought I had been wrong <br />That maybe we could change fate all along <br />We, too, had fallen for Love's cruel trap <br />Couldn't see that we were doomed from the start. <br /> <br />But alas, we didn't listen to Fate <br />And now here we are, bruised, battered insane <br />Refusing to believe that it's over <br />Hoping that somehow, we'd stay together. <br /> <br />But the truth hurts, no matter how we feel <br />What's not meant to be won't ever set us free <br />Why can't we get a dose of reality? <br />We never were, have never been, and never will be.<br /><br />Cristelle Elaine Collera<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/never-we-will-be/
