You might think this funny,
at first I did too,
but the sound of a tummy talking
is surely something new?

I don’t mean that it rumbles
like plenty of stomachs do.
I mean it actually communicates,
just like me and you.

The other night it started singing
a song that was new to my ears.
The tone was deep and mellow,
and the lyrics were sad and sincere.

I couldn’t control my tummy,
without warning it would burst into song.
In the cinema or in shopping centre,
to my stomach it was doing nothing wrong.

My tummy very quickly became talked about,
so much so the media hounded me.
Despite this, my tummy carried on regardless,
even when we appeared on TV.

To further enhance its popularity,
it laughed and told funny jokes.
It had an unusual insight on life
and told listeners to take down notes.

My tummy became a worldwide attraction,
the masses wanted to hear it sing.
But within a year my tummy stopped singing
and never again uttered a thing.

Orlando Belo

http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/a-funny-tummy/
