BEFORE THERE WERE CATS <br /> <br /> <br />Before there were cats all the birds had it great, <br />and were able to sing all the day without fear, <br />but since God said, "Let there be cats, " they can't wait <br />for the status quo ante, though it isn't near. <br />There'll be no messiah to rid them of mammals <br />which persecute them while they sing in the trees. <br />They'll be threading through needles' eyes gigantic camels <br />before all cats die just in order to please <br />the birds who can't stand them. They'll have to accept <br />the fact that the world is a hard place to share <br />with cats who at bird-murder are so adept: <br />the sad fact is clearly that God doesn't care, <br />or listen to birdsong while birds cry for aid, <br />for He's far to busy with humans who spill <br />the blood of their fellows who are not afraid <br />of acting like cats-they're all doing God's will. <br /> <br />Inspired by watching Figaro upset the mocking birds outside our house, who have no peace while he observes them, looking at them through the window or the front door. <br /> <br /> <br />5/16/12 #10243<br /><br />gershon hepner<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/before-there-were-cats/
