In the desert we roam, <br />Steel horses we ride, <br />Gunners scanning, <br />There's no where to hide. <br /> <br />I am the Infantry, 'Follow Me, ' <br />American bred, in 'The Land of the Free.' <br /> <br />We came here young, <br />Leave worn and old, <br />Troubled mind, restless soul. <br />Vacant stares, <br />Sunburned brown, <br />Finally...one day, put our weapons down. <br /> <br />Greet our families, <br />Hug them tight, <br />Finally rest, from this year long fight. <br /> <br />No more hunger, no more death, <br />Clean, fresh air, <br />Take a long deep breath. <br /> <br />Silken sheets lay upon my bed, <br />Never again will I count the dead. <br />Every morning when I rise, <br />No more rockets will fill the skies. <br /> <br />So, when I lay down and finally sleep, <br />I'll keep my secrets, <br />Hide them deep.<br /><br />Philip Lore<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/in-steel-horses-we-ride/
