The Serpent met his match when he approached Thomas Thatch
A country pastor who's mission was to heal
Said the serpent to Thomas, I'll make you a rich man
All you need to do is before me right now kneel

Thomas said, I don't think so, but I'll have you know
My mission is to save a soul a day
And if I do nothing else with all that of my life
At least I've walked a righteous holy way

But I can give you power, said the serpent
And I can give you land!
I can put your very name
On the tongue of every man!

I can give you fame
Make you the greatest of all time!
Would you walk away from that
And choose your path not mine?

Said Thomas, The Lord Almighty
He takes care of all my needs
I consort with him and he talks to me
I do for him to please

I seek not for my next drink
I worry not for my next meal
He provides in all those things
Always has and always will

I think it is you, said now Thomas
Who should change and walk the way
For even you and the evil you do
You too can still be saved

I must go, said the serpent
For this nonsense I have no time!
No hurry to go, said The Pastor
You still have not changed my mind

Do you mean, said the serpent
That your faith I stand to aloft?
No, said Thomas now with ax in hand
He then cuts the serpents head right off

He skins the serpent then throws into a pot
And there before the pot he kneels
'It is I Thomas, my Dear Lord Almighty'
'I thank you for my next meal'.

Bill Simmons

http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/the-pastor-and-the-serpent/
