The lingering shadows cast over the land <br />Indicate that Summer is on the wane. <br />They seem to shelter the garden from the sun <br />And gradually pass over the lane. <br /> <br />They appear to have a supernatural power, <br />And hover around an area in a strange way. <br />Their forms are often distinct and elongated, <br />And at times they leave without delay. <br /> <br />They develop into an unusal shape, <br />They stagger nonchalantly to and fro. <br />They execute like a military detachment <br />In close order, and away they go. <br /> <br />They make a harmonious adaptation, <br />To observe them is astonishing and fun. <br />They are lurking but for a few moments, <br />Then gone with the fading rays of the sun.<br /><br />Joseph T.
