I saw him yesterday <br />as he rode into the arena <br />on a big bay roping horse <br />His hat pulled forward just a tad <br />rope in his hand <br />He sat tall in the saddle <br />I could tell he was a very proud <br />man. <br />Women were adoring him with <br />each breath he took. <br />His horse backed into the chute <br />ready to work. <br />When the gate open the steer <br />came out strong <br />Old bay came out fast <br />The cowboy was ready with rope in hand. <br />steer was running as hard as he could, <br /> Old bay stumbled and fell, <br />And laid very still. <br />The cowboy got up but old bay didnt move. <br />Tears came to the cowboys eyes <br /> When he looked at old bay <br />He took off his hat and kneeled to pray <br /> I heard him say <br /> Lord, <br />Dont let old bay go this way <br />hes done his job well over the years <br />Tears fell from the cowboys eyes <br />as he continued an said <br />Hes been my best friend an compain to <br />Let me put him to pasture <br />To live out his life <br />He deserves much better than this <br />As he wiped the tears from his eyes <br />Then he started to trun when he heard <br />a big sign <br />Old bay stood up an went to his side <br /> the cowboy loaded him up <br />Took him to his best pasture <br />And said youve been the best <br />i couldnt ask for anything better, <br />Then trun and walked away <br />Many years later <br />I still see old bay as i drive by <br />his pasture, <br />What i would give to be loved <br />liked that <br /> Written 3/4/04 <br /> Copyrights Jackie Kirby 3/4/04<br /><br />Jackie Kirby<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/true-cowboy/
