is not a romantic day <br />and I can’t imagine <br />having sex <br />with dwarfs, <br />or wharfs, <br />or dogs, <br />or donkeys, <br />for perhaps <br />the first time <br />in my life. <br /> <br />today <br /> <br />is not so much a letting go <br />as a never wanting, <br />and so my thoughts <br />wander <br />to preparing my tax returns <br />and not to having sex <br />with the sun, the moon, <br />Saturn, or Uranus. <br /> <br />today <br /> <br />my nose grows <br />increasingly congested <br />and I have no desire <br />to love it up. <br /> <br />today <br /> <br />I give no thought <br />to romancing my cat <br />and my car <br />holds no allure. <br /> <br />today <br /> <br />the unspeakable <br />disorder <br />in my house <br />is no longer <br />a siren’s call <br />to the neater <br />parts of me <br /> <br />nor <br />do I yearn <br />to mix it up <br />with the nether regions <br />of Miss Universe. <br /> <br />today <br /> <br />is not <br />a romantic day <br />and so I sit alone, <br />cast a solitary shadow, <br />yearn for no one, <br />not because I am complete, <br />but because <br />I’m too weary <br />to reach, <br />too empty <br />to hunger.<br /><br />Percy Dovetonsils<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/today-258/
