We write down the words <br />That we choose for our poems <br />We do it in our own special way <br />As our mind continues to roam <br /> <br />We finish one line after another <br />We get down the meaning so well <br />Unfortunately a little voice in our head <br />Has information it needs to tell <br /> <br />Perhaps a word isn’t quite perfect <br />And the ‘look’ may not be right <br />“Change it, ” the voice continues <br />We see flashing luminous lights <br /> <br />Sometimes the voice is really quite subtle <br />We want it to go away, it’s true <br />Occasionally it does, but at other times <br />It’s persistent, has it happened to you? <br /> <br />So what should we do my fellow poet? <br />When we hear that inner voice <br />For me I usually have to listen to it <br />It seems I have no other choice <br /> <br />We plug along, best as we can <br />No matter what others’ might think <br />Enjoying the craft is the bottom line <br />For a poem can come to us in a blink!<br /><br />Marilyn Lott<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/a-poet-s-inner-voice/
