My brahminism.. <br />Still holding ascetic austerities <br />Bathed brisk in dark dawn, <br />Prepared food for the day <br />Despite the regards for the nightly cooked <br />Despite the family's grumbling <br />At the earliest Brahma Muhurtham <br />All for a visit to Thirupudaimaruthur <br />Where next to Karuvur Chithar <br />I was to sing per my daughter's plea <br />Praising the Lord who might change <br />His left bent to right listening special for us <br />And whose blessings to Viramarthanda, Indra <br />We hoped, splattered in the skies to fall on us <br />While running by car in pleasant speed <br />And <br />At the shrine by 6.30a.m so having arrived <br />Readied the hopeful hearts <br />For a holy dip in holy Thamiraparani <br />But I who was for a cosmic glow <br />Was deceived by a cometic blow <br />So to withdraw satisfied with home-bath itself <br />Simply to sink in silent bird watching <br />Just to exclaim at times 'Flamingo, Flamingo' <br />Which my folly, hurt my daughter very much <br />For which she was jagging her teeth too much <br />That all my cheers flew away with the birds <br />That I totally ended in unfair singing <br />But my grand-daughter made up that moment <br />All with her rattling, prattling syllables <br />Ensuring boons from Lord Narumpoonathar <br />Who has been merciful for twelve hundred years <br />Like His curative consort Rudraksha Gomathi <br />Whose blessing eyes sprayed flecks of river Gomathi <br />Turning out my bad mood for a happy serving <br />At the resort of Athaalanallur <br />Where Gajendravarada too blessingly feasted <br />All with which we became loaded full <br />Albeit reserved more of bird watching <br />And murals searching for next visit<br /><br />Indira Renganathan<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/a-visit-to-thirupudaimaruthur-tirunelveli-district/
