We played until the foaming mouth, <br />When bacteria had grown. <br />Behind the fence, my yeller hound, <br />A bone I haven't thrown... <br />I think of days of yeller and I, <br />While my heart fell with the tears. <br />Wagging tail and sticks that fly, <br />Inspiration through the years. <br />Now, I see his crazed eyes stare, <br />His jagged teeth exposed, <br />Ma' held the gun, it's just not fair! <br />A demon was imposed? <br />One shot and howls have started. <br />And I heard ol' yeller cry. <br />Another shot and he departed. <br />I watched my best friend die. <br />We played until the foaming mouth, <br />When bacteria had grown. <br />There laying dead, my yeller hound, <br />A bone I haven't thrown...<br /><br />Tom Rooney<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/old-yeller/
