Lovers <br />fold their clothes <br /> <br />neatly <br />in a tidy pile <br /> <br />leaving behind <br />their hims & hers <br /> <br />disappearing into <br />the depths <br /> <br />of an <br />Ocean <br /> <br />taking prisoner <br />shell & starfish. <br /> <br />The water <br />now a sky <br /> <br />above them <br />as they below <br /> <br />strangers <br />in the Land of Fishes. <br /> <br />The wind <br />discovers <br /> <br />their dead <br />clothes <br /> <br />& with a whoop <br />brings them to life <br /> <br />a trousers <br />(cut offs) <br />running along the beach <br /> <br />by its <br />Self <br /> <br />relishing such <br />freedom <br /> <br /> being <br />chased <br /> <br />by an aquamarine <br />blue blouse <br /> <br />& a frisky fly-away <br />wrap-around-skirt <br /> <br />skittish <br />seductive. <br /> <br />The lovers <br />emerging <br /> <br />just then <br />back into the land <br />where the sun is the sun <br /> <br /> <br />& clouds <br />swim in the sky <br /> <br />clutching their treasures <br /> <br />chuckling at <br />their nakedness <br /> <br />(they all Eve <br />& Adam) <br /> <br />innocent <br />as Paradise <br /> <br />their laughter <br />chasing <br /> <br />their run away <br />clothes.<br /><br />Dónall Dempsey<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/run-away-clothes/
