The estuary smiled at the sunset, tide <br />Washing in gently meant summer's day waned. <br />I walked the bank admiring the scene beside <br />Small misty beach, tidal fields always gain <br />A way into my heart. <br /> <br />Glancing across flood-plain, thankful for calm, <br />I saw sudden vast ripples surging in <br />Like submarine action and brought me alarm <br />Until told it was shoals of mullet-fin. <br />Sport was about to start. <br /> <br />Chaos soon reigned when for a while fish offered <br />Wild silver-spin dancing, dusk saw them begin <br />To surface inside tight rings, which prompted <br />Expulsion, leaping for flies showed strength akin <br />To the habits of shark. <br /> <br />Stirring water, such vibrant life displayed <br />Communal gain, - fed my heart too as I <br />Stood agape, while as twilight fell away <br />Frenzy continued of fish versus fly. <br />What a night-life party!<br /><br />Fay Slimm<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/night-life-8/
