No-one now to share your dreams, <br />To walk beside those mountain streams, <br />To hold your ailing, trembling hand, <br />To write sweet nothings in the sand; <br /> <br />No-one to whisper “I love you”, <br />To keep you warm the winter through, <br />To share with you first buds of spring, <br />To show their love in a wedding ring. <br /> <br />No-one at home for you to say, <br />“I missed you my love, at work today” <br />To sit together at evening meal, <br />To tell each other just how you feel, <br /> <br />No-one there to forgive you gladly, <br />All those times you behaved so badly, <br />To visit your own sweet secret place, <br />Suspended somewhere in time and space. <br /> <br />No-one knows how much you cared, <br />Just you two and the time you shared, <br />Memories now left of bygone years, <br />The good times, bad, and all the tears. <br /> <br />No-one realizes just how lonely, <br />When ‘we two’… becomes ‘me only’, <br />God loans us soul mates, for a fleeting while, <br />Through His loving Grace…once again we’ll smile.<br /><br />Alf Hutchison<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/lonely-119/
