Sunlight through the slanted shutters <br />Lay stripes across her breasts, <br />Bars across the sheets, <br />Precise angular lines of shadow <br />When they leave the window, <br />But somewhere between <br />There and her body <br />The stripes become fluid <br />As the light itself, <br />Snuggling her smooth skin <br />As a see-through slip, <br />Sliding around her ribs <br />Like lotion from the hands of her lover. <br /> <br />And he beside her, sleeping, <br />Head and chest laying in darkness <br />While his lower half is hatch-marked <br />By the pattern of umbra, <br />Caressing his midriff, hips and thighs <br />As her arm falls across him. <br />Both sleepers are cut by the same shade, <br />Both mended by the same rays.<br /><br />Lillian Susan Thomas<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/in-the-afterglow-a-couple-sleeps/
