Tears rolled in rivulets <br />Down his grubby little face <br />A punished school boy <br />Standing in disgrace <br />His only fault <br />If it could be so called <br />Was his inability <br />To correctly spell <br />A fault that did not go well <br />With his school teacher <br />A strong believer in <br />The merits of the age old theory <br />That sparing the rod <br />Always spoilt the child <br />So he did just that <br />In the fervent hope that <br />His student would remember <br />That pain always followed <br />Every spelling memory lapse <br />Little did he realize <br />That all he had succeeded <br />In doing was scarring <br />The young child and <br />Developing in him <br />A fear of the language <br />And the School Master<br /><br />Sandra Martyres<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/punished-4/
