A TRIBUTE TO POETRY <br /> <br />Let Poetry remain unfettered like Prometheus <br />unbound, @ <br />Unlike a bird in a golden cage with muted <br />sound! <br />Let it soar high in the blue ethereal space, <br />With noble thoughts and lyrical expressions <br />of loftiness! <br />Never to melt like Icarus’ wings in its flight <br />of aspiration, # <br />But to shine and reflect the sun’s rays - <br />with a message of love and devotion! <br />Bringing hope for mankind for a better day! <br />Touching our hearts and minds, – for Poetry <br />is here to stay! <br />My humble tribute to poetry remains on this <br />Diwali day! <br />- Raj Nandy <br />- 17 Oct 09 <br />- New Delhi <br /> <br />@ = Prometheus a second generation Titan stole the FIRE from Zeus, <br />and gave it to mankind! He was punished by Zeus who bound him to <br />a rock, where an eagle ate his liver every day since the liver regenerated itself everday! <br /> Aeschylus immortalized the myth in his tragedy – <br />“Prometheus Bound” during the 5th Century BC! The poet Shelley in his <br />“Prometheus Unbound” – makes him to rebel & overthrow Zeus in the <br />spirit of the French Revolution! # = Daedalus the great craftsman & his <br />son was imprisoned by King Minos of Crete in a tower. Daedalus made two pairs of wings for him & his son Icarus to fly & escape! <br />He had sealed the wings with wax! He cautioned Icarus not to fly up <br /> close to the sun, as the wax would then melt! <br />His son disobeyed, the wax melted & Icarus got drowned in the <br />sea below!
