The history of this chair goes back <br />A hundred years and more <br />But I’m so proud that it is mine <br />For it’s a family heirloom I truly adore. <br /> <br />“You will need to give it to someone <br />Who will take good care of it, for sure, ” <br />My ten year old granddaughter said <br />A girl with a heart so sweet and pure. <br /> <br />I know she is hoping she will be the one <br />To have it when I am gone <br />And perhaps it will be nestled <br />In her home where it may belong. <br /> <br />My grandmother bought this chair <br />At an auction when my aunt was small <br />My aunt died at ninety-four this year <br />But before then she didn’t hesitate at all. <br /> <br />She said when she had to change apartments <br />She didn’t have enough room for the chair <br />“Marilyn, I want you to have it now, ” <br />I knew then how much she really cared. <br /> <br />So I treasure this child’s old rockin’ chair <br />I remember rocking in it for many years <br />My heart warms when I look at it now <br />Sometimes it evokes happy tears!<br /><br />Marilyn Lott<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/the-old-rockin-chair/
