I peeped out and saw the worlds display
I stepped outside to dance and play
I realize now I was protected well
It’s time to get back into my shell

Happily I twirled and high I flew
I soared and glided wherever the wind blew
I’d never be the same if ever I fell
I better got back into my shell

You may lose many and win a few
The world is not as simple as you
What will happen no one can tell?
So I’d rather get back into my shell

It promised I could take as much as I could
What’s the use if I don’t feel good?
I may be called a frog in the well
Whatever it is, I go back to my shell

Time is not ripe for me to step out
Unsteady with fear and clouded by doubt
Perhaps I was mistaken that I could do well
But now it’s back into my shell

Inside my shell there is ample space
I’ll trudge along at my own pace
The day I leave who can foretell
I’ll crawl back now, into my shell

Bindu Vidyadhar

http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/back-to-my-shell/
