He carefully placed a black rose on her grave <br />It was perhaps his way of saying goodbye <br />He also added a card with a black ribbon that read <br />“For my departed wife as she embarks on a new life” <br /> <br />Back home he ripped up the wall paper <br />The pale pink colour reminded him of her <br />He gathered all her clothes and cosmetics <br />And sent them in a sealed bag to a local charity <br /> <br />When the house was rid of every memory <br />He brought in designers to refurbish it <br />With new furniture upholstery and wall paper <br />He wanted nothing to remind him of her <br /> <br />The neighbours watched the happenings <br />With more than normal neighbourly interest <br />They wondered why he had painstakingly <br />Eliminated even the faintest memory of her <br /> <br />Their curiosity was satiated a fortnight later <br />With the arrival of two detectives at his door <br />They spent and hour or so apparently quizzing him <br />And then came the verdict –he had killed his wife! !<br /><br />Sandra Martyres<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/black-memories-3/
