It is not all gloom and doom <br />For hope there is always room <br />Look at the beggar across the street <br />He does not beat a hasty retreat <br />When a mean and miserly passer by <br />Shouts an expletive on hearing him cry <br />He believes that behind every mean guy <br />Lurks someone with extra food to supply <br />Neighbours have watched this man for years <br />And often worry when he disappears <br />They perhaps cheer when he re-appears <br />After seeing him around for so long <br />They know that to their area he belongs <br />They do not allow him to stray too far <br />When the going on the street gets sour <br />They get together and donate veggies <br />To keep him from getting too edgy <br />Hence their motto for the current recession <br />Is not to avoid going into depression <br />They need to do all that they can to stay afloat <br />And if unaffected they would not gloat <br />They always keep the lowly beggar in mind <br />After all he still manages to find <br />Sustenance from the big hearted and kind <br />Begging for them is obviously not a possibility <br />There are other ways of facing vulnerability <br />Rolling up ones sleeves and mucking in <br />While the going gets tough will bring a win <br />Their idea is to use all the resources available <br />To find a financial solution that is suitable<br /><br />Sandra Martyres<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/in-times-of-gloom-and-doom/
