The EYE a marvel of our God's creation <br />It peforms for us a legion of things <br />The faintest spark - we can see in thedark <br />And watch the motion of humming birds wings <br /> <br />The eye has a lens that is so self adjusting <br />An optic nerve relays sight to the brian <br />The thousands of images daily we see <br />And colourful sights - a Fiesta in Spain. <br /> <br />The eye can take dozens and dozens of pictures <br />Each second so movement is seen <br />Each picture is faithfully stored in the brain <br />In red, orange, yellow, blue, violet and green. <br /> <br />The retina has zones - the rods and the cones <br />When it's dark they help us to see <br />They also distinguish the colour of things <br />The green of the grass and the blue of the sea. <br /> <br />As we get older our eyes lose their power <br />To focus on thimgs far and near <br />Men seldom make passes at girls who wear glasses <br />So they wear contat lenses I hear. <br /> <br />Take care of tour eyes - please wear safety specs <br />Beware flying sparks when shoeing your horse <br />Or when usiing a plane or a lathe <br />It's all good Health and Safety - of course! ! <br /> <br />Cataracts - glaucoma - defects of the eye <br />Disorders that affect our sight <br />Remind us how precious to us are our eyes <br />No longer so shiney and bright. <br /> <br />Please remember that sight is a God given sense <br />So take care what you watch on TV <br />The eye is a windoe straight into the soul <br />Wha we see governs - what we will be! <br /> <br />(John Knight - Colchester - Christmas Eve 2009)<br /><br />John Knight<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/1017-eyes-windows-into-the-soul/
