Christmas day is over <br />The gifts are all unwrapped, <br />My patience now is wearing thin, <br />My energy is sapped; <br />Someone isn't happy <br />'Bout the presents that he got - <br />'You know I don't like such and such - <br />This brand is simply not <br />The one that I am used to'....... <br />You'd think I would have known, <br />No matter that I haven't bought <br />Your clothes since you've been grown! <br /> <br />A little understanding <br />Would be asking for too much? <br />I realize our tastes don't match <br />And we've grown out of touch; <br />It's called the generation gap, <br />It widens every year - <br />Some day your kids will wonder why <br />The things YOU buy are queer, <br />So just be happy that you got <br />Anything at all - <br />I could have bought you fruitcake <br />Or a fuzzy Elmo doll! <br /> <br />And now it's time for me to cry, <br />It really is a crime <br />That every bloody holiday <br />I spend my last red dime <br />Trying to please everyone - <br />My check book is a mess, <br />My credit cards are all maxed out, <br />My nerves are shot from stress; <br />Next year will be different <br />When Christmas time is near - <br />I'll fly off to Hawaii, <br />Soak up sun and drink some beer!<br /><br />Linda Ori<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/it-s-all-over-but-the-crying/
