She lifts air in her bare hands <br />plays with its eddies unfolding. <br /> <br />She parts space <br />with her gleaming smile <br />caresses musical waves <br />with strokes of her hands. <br /> <br />The Ballerina <br />takes to the firmament <br />lands pillow soft <br />limbs extended <br />flower-straight; <br />her movements a perfect clef- <br />flight without wings; <br />buoyed by nothing but her angel smile; <br />making a path <br />in crystal light; <br />butterfly deft <br />on the stage floor <br />in mid flight <br />while hands <br />rise high <br />in theater air <br />voices raised <br />convinced <br />ballerinas <br />really <br />can fly. <br /> <br />Crescendo; <br />arpeggio; <br />staccato; <br />the music ends <br />and she pirouettes <br />up through Heaven's Gate <br />star-dust <br />in her wake <br />and flyings <br />landing deep <br />in the aesthetic unknown.<br /><br />Lonnie Hicks<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/flyings/
