I look death in the eye,
and see the cold stare.
A smile and grin,
I return the glare.

You've come for me,
as I lay on the floor.
shaking and gasping
the holliest of wars.

Pointing a boney finger,
you say its my turn.
torture and torment,
my soul will burn.

I will walk with the demons,
and dance with my pain.
damned to an eternity
of waiting in vane.

This is the wish
its deaths only desire.
To see me consumed,
by hell's lonely fire.

I embrace my decision,
and walk for this land.
Let go of my life
watch it blow with the sand.

The cries are so loud
echoing in my mind.
but there's no turning back
i've left it behind.

Thousands of shadows
all ripping at me
shredding my skin
leaving me to bleed

I cry out to them all
knowing my fears,
that my cries in the fire
are fallin on deaf ears

So this is the place
all alone in my cell.
Welcome to my home
my life, no, my hell.

alan ellis

http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/screaming-within/
