STATUE IN THE RAIN

I stand
like a statue in the rain.

The house
looks dumbly at me.

Its two windows
& its door

like a giant
human face

staring stupidly
at me.

I gaze
blankly back.

Suddenly the light
has gone from its eyes

you emerge
all dressed in red

as if the door
had stuck its tongue out.

A stranger
(to me)

but obviously
(not to you)

appears & kisses you.

You kiss him
passionately back.

You told me
you were seeing your Mum.

He looks
nothing like your Mum.

I stand
like a statue in the rain.

Dónall Dempsey

http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/statue-in-the-rain/
