Adeline Foster - NOUNS

2014-11-10 220 Dailymotion

There are different kinds of words
With names the same as you.
Nouns are any thing you name:
A cat, a dog, a shoe,
A city, or a country,
A feeling, or a zoo.
Frequently a signal
Will tell you that a noun
Is coming down the road of speech
Before you hear the sound.
Eight of these are common;
You hear them every day.
They tell you that a speeding noun
Is coming fast your way.
A house, an owl,
The house, my home,
Our house, their owl,
Your house, its home.
These noun signals can determine
If it is a noun.
They are called determiners;
Have you got that down?

Proper nouns are proper names;
They really can be fun.
They’re the words that tell us
That you’re that special one.
Every person has a name-
Every city, country, state,
So, when you’re called, you come at once
And we don’t have to wait.
Pronouns are just little words
We use in place of nouns.
This would be a funny rhyme
If we left out all pronouns.
Although you know a person’s name
You don’t say it every time,
For he, or she, or they, will do,
So pronouns save you time.
Nouns can be a thousand things,
But proper nouns just one.
Pronouns are the little words
That help our speech become
The pleasant talk we use each day.
Now, wasn’t learning fun?

Adeline Foster

http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/nouns/
